Fashion Designer Namrata Joshipura Advocates for Slow Fashion at FLO National Event

Hyderabad’s FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) Chapter received a prestigious invitation from FLO National to spearhead a program in New Delhi. The event saw Ritu Shah, Chair of Hyderabad’s FLO Chapter, taking on the role of Day Chair for a session on the Business of the Fashion Industry. The session featured acclaimed fashion designer Namrata Joshipura as the guest speaker, renowned for her boundary-breaking designs with a global appeal.

Speaking at the event, Sudha Shivkumar, FLO National President, highlighted India’s burgeoning fashion market, projected to soar to a staggering 115 to 125 billion US dollars by 2025. The sector’s remarkable growth potential, with a projected CAGR of 11 to 12%, underscores its significance for aspiring women entrepreneurs keen on exploring various facets such as design, production, marketing, and retail.

Shivkumar emphasized the importance of FLO’s initiative to bring chapters together in New Delhi, fostering invaluable networking opportunities and facilitating collaboration. She also underscored FLO’s longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, diversity, and inclusivity, championing these causes for over four decades.

In a compelling discussion on the fashion industry’s future, Namrata Joshipura emphasized the transformative role of technology and e-commerce, highlighting their capacity to extend market reach and streamline operations. However, Joshipura cautioned against the pitfalls of fast fashion, stressing that sustainability and fast fashion are fundamentally incompatible. She advocated for a shift towards “slow fashion,” emphasizing quality over quantity and the need for consumer awareness.

Reflecting on her journey, Joshipura shared insights on blending New York sophistication with Delhi’s vibrant culture, shaping her distinctive design aesthetic. Responding to Ritu Shah’s queries, Joshipura underscored the importance of differentiation in a crowded industry landscape, emphasizing the need for a unique value proposition to thrive.

Ritu Shah expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon the Hyderabad Chapter and highlighted Joshipura’s narrative as one of empowerment and resilience, transcending the realm of fashion.

FICCI FLO, through its mission to promote economic empowerment and equal opportunities for women, continues to inspire and support women across diverse industries, fostering a culture of innovation and leadership.
