Kaun Banega Crorepati or KBC has been a phenomenal success as a show and for Amitabh Bachchan who has hosted it for all seasons (12) barring one which was done by Shahrukh Khan.
The promos for this season are being aired on television. The theme seems to be from “setback to comeback” as Amitabh Bachchan says. There is Shyamal, who along with nine friends from the village, was leading a decent life in Mumbai but unfortunately during the lockdown all the savings dried up and they had to return to the village. Now he dreams of winning money and bringing back all his friends to Mumbai again. Sarita, a dancer who is paralysed yet with an alert mind, dreams of standing on her feet in terms of making money through KBC! There is another person who is overjoyed on winning Rs 1000/- as he feels he can start a business all over again. He had made crores in the earlier business which he began with Rs 500 and reached up to many crores but lost it all!
It opens up a window of opportunity for many in this country to make money through knowledge. It allows people to dream of a new world for themselves, of un-thought of possibilities coming true, a better life to live, see light at the end of a tunnel and of course to sit in front of Amitabh Bachchan and share their wishes, personal and professional matters, dilemmas etc. As a host, Amitabh is endearing and perfect to the core, from making the contestants sit to getting them to be comfortable. Most of the hot seat contestants are starry eyed no doubt and some of them convert this into a chance to lighten up the atmosphere and have fun too with Big B!
The show provides an equal opportunity to all irrespective of any barriers to participate. The thirst of winning fuels the participants from all walks of life to brush up their general knowledge. Such is the popularity of the show that people keep trying for years together to be on the hot seat opposite Big B.
The show also provides a platform for persons rendering yeomen service to needy people through the NGOs they have set up to raise funds playing along with a celebrity guest. Many NGOs have benefitted by this.
There are many more people with dreams in their eyes vying for the hot seat in order to see a new dawn. In this new normal, one has to see how the show will be staged in the weeks to come perhaps without the large audience which comes to the contestants’ aid in answering the question.
