The Women’s Day celebration featured a captivating fireside chat moderated by Tanya Chaitanya, CEO of Her Circle, where the six celebrated craft masters shared their journeys, challenges, and innovations in keeping India’s handmade traditions alive, reinforcing the significance of craftsmanship in contemporary India.

Honoring India’s Leading Women in Craft
The event honored six exceptional craft masters, each recognized for their expertise and contribution to India’s artistic heritage: 

🔹 Sunetra Lahiri (West Bengal) – National Award, Design Innovation, Aari & Zardozi embroidery
🔹 D. Sivamma (Andhra Pradesh) – National Award, Leather Puppetry
🔹 Arroju Dhanalaxmi (Telangana) – National Award, Silver Filigree
🔹 Swarna Chitrakar (West Bengal) – State Award, Pattachitra & Kalighat Painting
🔹 Sukanti Meher (Odisha) – National Award, Ikat Weaving
🔹 Asha Jha (Bihar) – National Award, Madhubani Painting 

Each of these renowned craft masters has not only honed her skill but has also played a pivotal role in preserving, mentoring, and innovating within their respective crafts, ensuring that India’s handmade legacy thrives for future generations.

To further extend this celebration, Swadesh will host a month-long exhibit at its Hyderabad store, featuring the finest works of these award-winning craft masters. This initiative allows visitors to witness first-hand the intricacy and mastery behind these traditional crafts.
