Thingyan is the Burmese New Year and harvest festival. It is also known as the Water Festival, and is accompanied by the playful act of water splashing that symbolises purification and washing away of the old to make way for the new.
Burma Burma the vegetarian Burmese Specialty restaurant is celebrating the new year with a limited-edition festive menu that goes on till May 14. This includes the Thingyan Tiffin Meal that serves for two and includes dishes that thrive on fresh ingredients and home-style cooking. The vibrant flavours make this curated meal delightful and memorable.

- The meal is served in special enamel multi-tiered tiffin made by Burmese artisans.
- Burmese New Year meal starts with a ceremonial washing of hands.
- In addition to Thingyan Tiffin Meal, the festive menu also offers traditional celebratory desserts, live hawker-style Noodle Salad, and a selection of refreshing new beverages.
- In the tiffin is the Hand Tossed Broad Beans with a fried Tofu. The beans are served in two different ways – tossed in slit chillies and onions and the very Burmese style of tossing in tamarind with some carrots thrown in as a crunchy side.
- The next box in the tiffin is the Mock Meatball Curry – is the vegan version of the flavourful classic meatball curry using tamarind paste, fragrant herbs and pepper for the zing. This is served with flaky Palata – the Burmese Paratha made more or less in the same way as it is made in India.
- The second one on the menu is the Zesty Tofu and BottleGourd Curry that can be eaten with Jasmine Rice with White Peas topped with spicy stir-fried soybean.
- Bottle gourd – a popular vegetable in Burmese cooking and Tofu – an excellent vegan protein come together well in this simple and absolutely refreshing liquidy curry.
- While the rice dish also called Pe Htamin, or Pe Htaw Bhut Htamin, is made with butter and lentils – in this case white peas.
- The tiffin is accompanied by Pumpkin and Bok Choy Stir Fry sautéed in a light sauce, and hand-pounded creamy cashew and tangy tomato & preserved bean dips – Burma Burma’s dips are never to be missed.
Hawker’s Noodle Salad is made live like the original; and it is indeed an exciting wait as you watch a whole bunch of ingredients like Hakka Noodles, Flat Noodles, Shredded Cabbage, Tofu, Onions, green tomatoes, Spring Onions, Tamarind water, green chillies…come together
