Dulquer Salmaan – the dapper looking army officer, Ram – the hero of Sita Ramam says he was looking for action films to do so that the audience does not feel he is repeating himself, but when he heard the story of Sita Ramam, he fell in love with it. “It is not that I will never do love stories, but I will be doing more mature kind of stories in the future. Any film I do whether it’s action or love story has to be original, new and fresh.”
“Sita Ramam is a very original story. It can become a real classic. I don’t think people are writing stories like this any more. This story from a different era, has a great screenplay and is unpredictable. It is a special film. And, I did not realise the magic until I started shooting. On the third day of the shooting, I was in Kashmir and we shot ‘Kanunna Kalyanam’. The place, setting, the music that is nostalgic – the entire song was shot beautifully. It was magical, and as we went along, I saw the barracks set is growing every day. I knew of the characters, but I did not know who was cast, and gradually I saw people coming on the set. Each time I saw them coming on to the sets – I was amazed. When I see Mrunal on the sets in Sita’s make up I feel no one else would look so perfect. And, she brings with her fun and energy. I have worked earlier with Vyjayanthi Movies, and with Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt and family they are so positive, warm and affectionate. It feels like they are running a hospitality company and not a production house. I have always enjoyed working with them” – shares Dulquer. He says he knew that if Swapna is bringing together the film, she would have thought it through, and I saw Hanu’s passion and I was convinced of the project.”
“Rashmika is usually a person, who always has a smiling face and laughs, but in this film there is not one scene where you see her smile. This is the kind of a role that she has not done so far.”

About why his father too advised him not to miss the film – he mentions – I am a great fan of my father. I can never find fault with anything he does. I idolise him and if I look at the number of films he has done, I feel I am not doing enough. We listen to so many story narrations that it is impossible to discuss every film at length. But if I like something, I tell him about it in a sentence, and he heard about this film, and felt that I should not miss it.
Dulquer says his films, be it in Malayalam or Telugu are a perfect balance of realistic and commercial. “I pick films that give scope for a cinematic experience. And, when I do a character even though I try not to let audience predict my expression, I do not put too much pressure on the character. It is unfair to do so. So, I let myself be as natural as possible and work within what the character demands.”
“There are many special and surprising moments in the film. What you see in the film trailer is just a tiny part of what you are going to witness,” he promises.
