The Context
The setting for Kalki 2898 AD as the name suggests is post-apocalyptic India of the future, where the last remaining city Kasi is ruled by the elite led by the supreme Yaskin from a megastructure ‘Complex’. The evil akin to perhaps rakshasa needs the tenth avtar of Vishnu to take birth and save the poor people dealing with drought and hunger. There is Ashwathama (Amitabh Bachchan) trying to protect the lady (Deepika) bearing the God in her womb. Bhairava (Prabhas) is evidently working for the bad people for bounty to get hold of her. And he does not tire of coming back with new ways of defeating Ashwathama. Then there is the super car and the robot controlling it Bujji made in India.
A coming together of cast & crew like never before; use of technology like never before; creating a fantastic universe like never before; and making it relatable to the entire subcontinent & taking the marketing to a whole new dimension – the two super women of Telugu cinema Swapna Dutt & Priyanka Dutt have donned the mantle of Telugu cinema as Kalki 2898 AD is geared up to raise the bar quite a few notches up post Rajamouli’s Bahubali.
The Crew
For such a massive and ambitious project to work you need an able crew.
Advanced tools and VFX software used to create the spectacular cities, landscapes, buildings and the gadgets to complement the physical structures that according to Priyanka Dutt were just 30 percent of the set, and the detailing that works fabulously for the film – are surely top class.
Santosh Narayanan, who is known for his experimental compositions gave music for the film, and trailers released have surpassed the expectations so far as bgm is concerned. Internationally Dordje Stojilkovic has handled prestigious projects and he handles the camera for this massive movie. And, the result is for all to see in the trailer, which hopefully didn’t give away too much before the film released.
Nevertheless the film as Deepika Padukone said seems to have used every latest technology well even while retaining the emotional soul which works with Indian audience, and all the super hero multiverse movies will vouch for the fact the sentiment is an important and internationally accepted aspect of a film. And, Indians are masters at it. Not to mention you have the master epic Mahabharata that drives the narrative of this film.
