Max Review – A slow and predictable first half gives way to an engaging thrilling action narrative
with Kiccha Sudeep carrying the film forward for most parts writes Rajeshwari Kalyanam

Kiccha Sudeep’s latest film begins with a bunch of cars zooming ahead against high octave music as the camera focuses on the low angle that adds a bit of drama to an otherwise regular scene. This is followed by more action as the story moves back and forth revealing the characters who are going to be a major part of the story that we wait for it to begin.

A police station keeps coming up in the narrative in this seemingly non-happening first half of the film where even the staff at the station are waiting for the new officer to come. He isn’t your regular guy is the message you get. But as an audience you are still waiting to be impressed.

And then arrives Kiccha Sudeepa – with a towering screen presence taking over the scene – there is the mandatory action sequence to introduce the hero and the song and dance number when you almost sigh out loud at perhaps yet another formula movie even while getting enamoured by his presence – and you are still waiting for the story to take off until finally it does.

Max Review

Max is a thriller weaved around the happening of a night – when Inspector Arjun Mahakshay (MAX) is yet to take charge before two men get killed in his station – and he has to hide this from his superiors and the powerful politicians and goons who are involved. The rest of the movie is about how this intelligent, dashing, invincible police man out does every one including a super intelligent cop with grey shades Inspector Roopa that takes off just before the interval.

Debutant director Vijay Kartikeyan’s film MAX ends up as an engrossing thriller thrown in with ample dose unapologetically high voltage action and noisy music that manages to get the audience’s attention despite its flaws.

Samyukta Hornad, Sukrutha Wagle and Sunil are on the cast of Max that Sudeep made almost a year after Vikrant Rona. The music for the film is composed by Ajaneesh Loknath, and Kiccha Sudeep produced it along with Kalaippuli S. Thanu.
