RRR Behind & Beyond now streaming on OTT decodes the making of the Oscar winning magnum opus and explores the possibility of RRR Part 2
RRR – the film that went on to be the first ever Indian Feature film to win the Oscar for India for its song Naatu Naatu – has by then already won over the fans across the world – especially the two Telugu states. The film had fantastic openings and record-breaking collections.
Evidently with Rajamouli helming the movie – the visionary director who has only delivered hits and with carried with him the legacy of Baahubali Part 1 & 2 – none expected any less. Plus, there has been the euphoria of watching two top heroes – Ram Charan and NTR on one screen and that they are reprising the roles of two revolutionaries Alluri Seetha Rama Raju and Komaram Bheem representing Andhra and Telangana regions which made the expectations higher with each teaser and character reveal.
The director visualised the scale of the film backed by the story written by his father Vijayendra Prasad. The writer took the fairly thin thread of history that both these heroes belonged to the same time period and that they went incognito for some time and weaved it into an amazingly delightful drama with emotions, action in place and the independence struggle as its backdrop.
Rajamouli made its larger than life via his layered characters, well-crafted action sequences, his attention to details. his authority over the various craft and his team that helped him realise his magnum opus dream.
The film has had its share of criticism. But all was forgotten when the team roared in joy as the Oscar was announced for Naatu Naatu. Music director Keeravani and writer of the lyrics Chandra Bose standing on the Oscar stage receiving the award is an ultimate high for the team and the rest of India as well.
While this may be the ultimate dream moment – this is definitely not the first! During the making of the film the team has had many euphoric moments and gratifying situation as the director went about visualising and executing his biggest film so far.
RRR Behind & Beyond is a documentary that brings together Behind the Scenes, edited and presented by the team that is a reveal of the inspiration and story behind the making of RRR. The film decodes few of the intricately planned and executed scenes that went on to become the highlights of the film.
As Rajamouli says that every situation is for him an opportunity to conceptualise an action sequence – the documentary showcases all the work that went into creating the introduction scenes of both heroes, their meeting, the reveal of their identities, the confrontation and final coming together for a cause. The documentary via BTS scenes and interviews puts forth the enormous work that went into the screenplay, choreography, planning and execution of these scenes that are nothing short of creating magic on screen.
The amount of physical and mental endurance, the minute detailing that went into the planning, production team that managed the people, the graphics team that took care of the VFX, the camera team that had to be as fast as a tiger and as accurate as the technology itself and background score that elevates the scene and the post production, the costumes of the cast and the creation of the CG animals and one man’s vision that brings it all together – RRR Behind & Beyond is the journey of director Rajamouli who drives his team towards realising his dream. A dream that only got bigger with each step.
