Secunderabad Railway Station is getting a ₹720 crore transformation with new entrances, enhanced security, and upgraded passenger facilities. This major overhaul aims to improve accessibility, streamline travel, and ensure a safer, more convenient experience for all passengers.
Secunderabad, India: South Central Railway (SCR) has embarked on an extensive upgrade project for Secunderabad Railway Station, with an estimated budget of Rs. 720cr. The redevelopment initiative includes the demolition of the existing north-side station building and the construction of a modern facility. Several measures are being implemented to ensure passenger safety and minimize inconvenience during the construction period.
New Entrances & Access Points:
- A new entrance has been opened at Gate No. 2 (next to Ganesh Temple), providing access to Platform No. 1, a General Booking Counter, an Inquiry Desk, and an expanded Waiting Hall with a seating capacity of 750 passengers.
- Since Gate No. 4 is now closed, additional entry points have been designated at Gate Nos. 3 and 3B (opposite Swathi Hotel).
- Another new entrance has been inaugurated at Gate No. 8 (Bhoiguda side entrance) for Platform No. 10, featuring a General Booking Facility.
Enhanced Passenger Assistance:
- Directional and signboards have been strategically installed across entry/exit points, platforms, and foot over bridges for easy navigation.
- Commercial Inspectors are deployed round the clock to monitor infrastructure and address equipment failures.
- Commercial Officers are stationed during rush hours and special train services like Kumbh Mela trains to manage passenger flow effectively.
- Sufficient ticket-checking personnel are available to regulate crowd movement and facilitate safe boarding.
Improved Amenities & Security Measures:
- Select food stalls are operational 24/7 to cater to passengers’ needs.
- Platforms are pre-designated for passengers of specific trains (Platforms 1 & 10) to prevent last-minute confusion and rush.
- Frequent announcements are made regarding train arrivals, delays, and Divyangjan (disabled) coach locations.
- Additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel have been stationed at key locations, including entry/exit points, platforms, and foot over bridges, to maintain security and assist passengers.
- Real-time CCTV surveillance has been expanded to swiftly identify and respond to security concerns.
- Special RPF teams have been formed to enhance the safety of women passengers.
- Fire safety protocols are being strictly enforced, with regular inspections conducted to ensure compliance.
