Ulajh Review – A conspiracy theory with a young Indian Foreign Services officer caught in the midst of it – and how the officer manages to come out of it a winner – Ulajh with Janhvi Kapoor in the lead captures audience’s attention with a gripping narrative while maintaining the surprise element
Ulajh is yet another thriller drama from Janhvi Kapoor that will surely add to her list of critically acclaimed roles. Post films like Gunjan Saxena and Mili, which have been talked about for her performance, and she gets to play the main role – she comes back with yet another film. In Ulajh she plays the lead as a foreign service diplomat who gets trapped into a situation which leaves her almost helpless and leads her to the verge of destruction.
Suman Bhatia comes from a family of successful and well respected diplomats and forever she has been trying to live up to the name and make her father proud.
She does get into foreign service and gains the position as Deputy High Commissioner in United Kingdom- and she is the youngest officer to get so high in the ranks. This obviously doesn’t go well with a few in the office who believe she must have got the position through recommendations.
However, it doesn’t take long before she gets honey trapped and one thing leads to another before she is in a helpless situation and gets blackmailed into leaking crucial information. She continues to get trapped more and more with no way of coming out of it in sight.
Why and how this has happened – and if and will she will be able to get out of the situation is what the film is about. The crucial aspect of the script of Ulajh is that it banks on India Pakistan relationship and extradition of a spy with a conspiracy theory involved – hence the drama is right there & it’s up to the script writer how he manages to keep it on a tight grip, and create suspense and thrill.
The writers Parveez Sheikh, Sudhanshu Sar who is also the award winning director who helmed the film, and Atika Chohan ensured that the conspiracy theory moves forward swiftly while keeping up the suspense factor. The characters are well defined and aptly cast. With Janhvi Kapoor is Gulshan Devaiah who plays the blackmailer. The others in the cast include Adil Hussain, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Tailang and Rajendra Gupta.
The movie presented by Junglee Pictures is being streamed on Netflix.
