Virinchi Varma, who last directed Nani starrer Majnu, is back with a new film after a brief sabbatical
When Raj Tarun-Avika Gor starrer Uyyala Jampala hit screens nearly 15 years ago, the film’s director Virinchi Varma was hailed as the next big thing in Telugu cinema. His command over storytelling, dialogue and extracting fine performances from hitherto unknown faces received praise from many corners. He later went on to direct Nani’s rom-com Majnu, which was a success too.
Many years after Majnu, Virinchi Varma has changed gears and is wielding the megaphone for a political biopic Jithender Reddy. Set in the 80s and based on real events, the film is headlined by Evarikee Cheppoddu fame Rakesh Varre (whose production Peka Medalu is due for a release). The action drama, set in Karimnagar, will release in theatres this summer on May 3.
Jithender Reddy is making its presence felt among audiences with its promotional material. The director believes the film will be a shot in the arm for Rakesh Varre’s career as a lead actor. The film was primarily shot in Jagityal and the makers plan to arrange a few screenings for prominent political personalities before its theatrical release. The teaser, trailer will be out soon, they add.
Producer Muduganti Ravinder Reddy shares that his sole intent in producing the film is to highlight Jithender Reddy’s contribution to society and that they had stayed true to reality with the script. Ravi Prakash, Chathrapathi Shekar and Subbaraju play other crucial roles in the film while Riya Suman is the female lead. Gopi Sundar is the composer.
